The key is money and ego's. The playoffs would envolve seven games;4,2,1 and eight teams. You have four major bowl games. Can you see the Rose Bowl agreeing to a first round Bowl and not being in the final two or the Orange. Yes you can rotate like they do now but look how long it took to get this to the BCS bowl system. The presure needs to come from the networks and fans. It will happen but not soon I'm affaid.

The problem is not just more money its who gets the money too. Take the Rose bowl having to host a first round bowl three weeks before New Years and only have the spotlight every four years when they currently get huge dollars now.
The Orange, Sugar, and Rose Bowl have always been around the 1st of January thats the Spotlight, the Ego part and not wanting to give up tradition. The Fiesta is a relatively new comer might be more flexible then the big three.

I voted Playoffs, but I don't think they'll ever do away with the BCS (it's the root of too much money). On that note though, I think that the NCAA planners that be should somehow make the bowl games into playoffs.

Later.
