In an era of parity in the N.F.L., when it seems that more and more games are being decided by field goals, more and more kicks are sailing between the uprights.

Each kick carries the National Football League toward a difficult question: Should anything be done about it?

My only problem with FG's are when they are used in O.T.

I can't stand to watch a hard fought game be decided by the foot of a kicker on the only drive of OT.

I would like to see the NCAA(FB) rules used in regards to OT, or just the first team to score a TD wins. Maybe only allowing FG attempts after the two minute warning or with five minutes left.

Heck, even a rule that only allows fg attempts after both teams have failed to score a TD on their first possession of OT, would be an improvement.

As long as you don't go with that "everybody gets a chance to answer the score" nonsense. I ain't trying to watch 7 overtimes.

I agree. I'm just tossing ideas out there. For example, (here I go again),eliminate fg attempts inside the 5 or 10 yard line.

Actually, I don't have a problem with the way things are, other than the OT needs to be tweaked a little.

Have FGs be worth certain points depending on WHERE they are kicked on the field, the longer the field goal, the more the points one team would get.

that would make it worth risking the long ones

Hey thats a pretty neat idea.

Might make everybody see the kickers are a bit more relavent than they are treated right now in FOOTball.

All that "just a kicker" stuff kinda gets to me.
