"Which team should have the best shot at the national title game? An undefeated team which has struggled? (Think Southern California.) A one-loss team from the best conference in the country? (Think Auburn.) An undefeated team from a conference looking for respect? (Think West Virginia.)....."

I guess people need to try what ever they can to keep USC out of the BCS title game. With arguements full of faulty logic.
USC has beaten Arkansas #13, Nebraska, #17, and still must play
Oragon #14, Cal, #10, Notre Dame #8
Thats 5 high raked team that they will play. Does it matter they are not winning by 20 points. A win is a win and not everyone agrees with the writer that the SEC is the top conference
Sagarin rates the PAC 10 as the top conference.
1 PAC-10 (A) = 79.16 79.03 ( 1) 10
2 SOUTHEASTERN (A) = 78.15 78.12 ( 2) 12
3 BIG TEN

If things continue the writer may be right. Just winning may not be enough and being undefeated could see USC watching the championship bowl. There are 5 undefeated teams in the run and you can see that polls might have USC slipping even as they continue to win.
Imagine a team that won a BCS in 2004 lost a close one in 2005 could go undefeated and not have a shot to play in the BCS championship bowl.
All the more reason a playoff system is needed.

no doubt a playoff system is in order, but i dont know if it will ever happen
