Thanks everyone - for all the World Cup discussion.
I would have to say that it probably did not help US fans that Italy won the cup - they play a very slow methodical game. They showed that it is not how you win games but how play to not lose.
FIFA’s number one concern has to be the flopping, diving and theatrics of the game. If anything this pushed fans that are on the fence away.
I am sad to see the cup go but look forward to the build up to the next cup and Euro 2008.
The US took a big step backwards. Following their 2002 success they actually saw an increase in MLS fans attending games and US soccer took some big steps in moving forward. I guess only time will tell how this will effect the sport loved by the world and ignored by Americans.
If the Mods of this board want to change this section to World Soccer - I would be happy to post about Euro 2008 and other European league games.
